- I begged the Abbot to relive me of this duty, but he would not listen, and instead felt that talking the old man’s confession was a test of my faith. And still the aged Druid continued to confess his sins, and continued to catalog these horrid beings, these Kings of Edom:
- “He lurks in the heart of the child who pulls the wings off flies; of the carriage driver who swerves to hit an animal crossing the road; of the man who murders another only to see him die. No rationale formulated by man – not willful cruelty, not a simple expression of power over another – can explain the action; it is an inchoate desire to cause pain and suffering to another.
